Half of Birmingham's homes predate 1960, and 27 percent went up before 1950. At the same time, 18 percent were built in 2000 or later, in American Community Survey numbers for 2020 to 2024.

Winter Markt in Shain Park
The Birmingham Shopping District holds the Winter Markt in Shain Park from December 4 to 6, 2026. The tree lighting is opening night, Friday, December 4, at 6 p.m., when a 41-foot tree with more than 40,000 LED lights goes on. If you want your own house lit before that weekend, schedule the install for the fall.

The lights come from us and go up on the house. The rooflines and colors are yours to pick. In January, after the holidays, we come back for them. You never touch a strand.
Old and new on the same street
A prewar house and its new neighbor need different plans even when they share a property line. The older one has more corners, dormers and porch roofs, and the newer one has fewer breaks and more height. We quote each house for what's on it.
