Window Cleaning in Novi, MI

Under half of Novi's homes are detached houses. The rest are townhouses, condos and multi-unit buildings along the Novi Road corridor and out toward Twelve Oaks. Novi's detached houses are young. A large share went up from the mid 1990s on, and Island Lake alone added roughly 885 homes and condos between 2001 and 2012. That era loved height: two-story entries, stairwell windows, fixed transoms above sliders, and great rooms with a wall of glass facing the yard. A household ladder can't reach most of it, and most of it doesn't open, so it never gets cleaned between professional visits. A water-fed pole reaches nearly all of it from the ground, and we plan safe access for the rest before the day.

Three things, each in its season. Oak pollen coats everything for about three weeks in May, and it sticks because it's wet when it lands. Sprinkler spray leaves mineral spots along the bottom of the lower panes all summer. And from December through March, salted roads put a brine film on storm doors, sidelights and the front of the house. The winter film is the one people underestimate: it's salt, it's invisible until the light hits it at the wrong angle, and dry-wiping grinds it across the glass. Pure water dissolves it and carries it off.

The median Novi home was built in 1993, according to the Census Bureau's 2020–2024 American Community Survey, and more than half of the city's housing went up in 1990 or later. Windows from those years are double-pane, and many have their grids sealed between the two panes. Pella and Andersen both build grids that way, which leaves both glass surfaces smooth, so there's nothing extra to clean around.

Replacement windows and the newest houses can also carry a low-E coating on the room side of the glass. Cardinal, which makes one of these coatings, says to clean it with soap and water or an ordinary glass cleaner, and never with a razor blade, a squeegee with bare metal edges or an abrasive cleaner. It looks like plain glass, so tell us if your windows are recent, and we'll check for the coating before we start.

Novi is still building, too. The Census Bureau's permit counts show new single-family homes approved in the city every year this decade. A house that's a few months old has construction dust on every pane, and that comes off in a normal cleaning.

Novi's outside season is March through November, with the spring and pre-holiday weeks filling first. Inside cleaning happens all year.
