The route

How commercial window cleaning works

Commercial window cleaning is fixed-interval route work that Glass Guru Window Cleaning runs for storefronts, offices, medical and dental practices, restaurants, showrooms and property managers across Metro Detroit. Each site gets a set day that suits its hours, so nobody at your business has to remember the glass.

Your building goes on a route with a fixed day and a set interval.

Typical intervals

High-traffic retail and restaurant entrances are usually cleaned weekly or biweekly, professional offices and medical suites monthly, and low-traffic office and industrial frontage quarterly.

  1. 01

    Walk the site

We count the glass and check the access. The entrance doors get their own line in the quote.

  2. 02

    Set the interval

Busy entrances weekly or every two weeks, offices monthly, quiet frontage quarterly. Many sites use two schedules, with the entrance on the shorter one.

  3. 03

    Fit it to your hours

Route days are fixed. Let us know when the site is open, and the visits are timed to suit it.

  4. 04

    Winter stays on the route

Road salt dries on the lower glass from December to March. We keep cleaning through the winter.

The front door

Customers notice the front door glass first

Customers see the door glass up close on the way in. Fingerprints at handle height and the white salt line along the bottom from January through March are hard to miss.

The hard part is scheduling. Glass gets cleaned when someone remembers, which means a rush before an inspection and then nothing for months.

A route fixes that: the same interval and the same day, planned around your hours. Nobody on your staff has to remember the glass.

How the route works

  • Visits repeat on a schedule you set with us.
  • Winter visits stay on the schedule. Salt film on the lower glass is at its worst from December to March.

“Glass Guru did an amazing job on our commercial space!”

Questions

Common commercial window cleaning questions in Northville, MI

How often should commercial windows be cleaned?

Busy retail and restaurant entrances usually need weekly or biweekly cleaning, offices and medical suites monthly, and quiet frontage quarterly. Many sites do best on two schedules, with the entrance glass and door lights on the shorter one. That keeps the front looking right without paying for the whole building every visit.

Can you clean before we open or after we close?

Tell us your hours when you ask for a quote and we'll plan the visits around them. The route day is fixed, so your staff know when to expect us and the schedule doesn't drift.

Do you clean windows on a new commercial building?

Yes, as its own service. New construction window cleaning takes the labels, paint, silicone and construction dust off the glass of a new storefront or office before it opens. Once the doors are open, the building can go onto a commercial route like any other site.

Do you clean interior partition glass and glass rails?

Yes, and it's worth listing them in your scope. Janitorial contracts tend to cover floors, restrooms and trash, and window cleaning gets taken to mean the outside, so conference room partitions, stair rails and balconies get missed. We clean them on the same visit as the entrance glass.

Do you service multiple locations on one account?

Yes. Each site is quoted on its own glass and access and runs on its own schedule, and the whole account can be billed together. Property managers and businesses with several locations get one contact and one schedule covering every site.

What happens to storefront glass in the winter?

Salt and brine get tracked and splashed onto the lower part of every entrance from December through March, and they dry into a chalky white line. It's mineral, so a spray bottle and a paper towel just smear it. We keep commercial routes running all winter, which is when storefront glass looks its worst.

Do you clean exterior light fixtures and signage?

Yes for light fixtures, and we do them while we're already on site. Wall packs, sconces and canopy lights fill up with bugs and road grime, and a dirty fixture puts out less light at your door. Lit signs and sign cabinets we'll look at and quote separately, since access and materials vary.

How is commercial window cleaning priced?

Per visit. The price comes from the amount of glass, the access, how often you want it cleaned and whether the inside is included. Cleaning more often lowers the cost of each visit, because glass on a two-week cycle never gets as dirty as glass cleaned once a quarter.

The detail

Commercial window cleaning, explained

Glass Guru cleans commercial glass on a schedule for storefronts, offices, medical and dental practices, restaurants, showrooms and property managers in Northville, Novi, Plymouth, Canton, Livonia, Farmington Hills, Commerce Township and West Bloomfield. A route means the same interval on the same day, timed to fit how your business runs, so nobody there has to keep track of the glass.

How often commercial windows need cleaning

It depends on how much of your glass gets touched. Busy retail and restaurant entrances usually need weekly or biweekly visits. Offices and medical suites run monthly. Warehouse, industrial and quiet office frontage run quarterly. Many sites end up with two schedules: the entrance glass on a short one, everything else on a longer one.

That split matters. Cleaning the whole building every two weeks to keep the door looking right means paying for glass that didn't need it, and a quarterly cleaning that leaves the door dirty for months is the more common mistake. Separating the entrance from the rest keeps the front looking right without over-cleaning everything else.

What winter does to storefront glass here

From December to March, road salt and brine get tracked, splashed and blown onto the lower few feet of every entrance. It dries into a chalky white line, and since it's mineral, a quick pass with a spray bottle and a paper towel just smears it.

This is the time of year many commercial schedules drop, on the idea that outdoor work stops in winter. Salt film is the most visible thing that happens to a storefront all year, and January is when the glass needs a visit most. We keep commercial glass on the schedule all year and treat the salt line as its own item.

Aluminum door frames need attention too. Salt sits in the bottom track and the door sweep, and after a few winters it pits the finish and corrodes the threshold. Wiping the frames each visit is a lot cheaper than replacing a door.

Glass rails, partitions and the interior glass nobody owns

Interior glass falls between the janitorial contract and the window cleaning contract more often than any other surface. Janitorial covers floors, restrooms and trash. Window cleaning gets read as the outside. The conference room partition, the glass stair rail and the mezzanine railing end up belonging to no one.

Glass rails are the worst of it: people touch both sides all day, and the smears sit at eye level for anyone below. They clean quickly and look much better afterward. We put them on the same route as the entrance glass, because they get dirty on the same schedule.

Outdoor light fixtures get missed too. Wall packs, sconces and canopy lights collect bugs and road grime, and a dirty fixture makes an entrance look dim long before anyone looks up. We clean them while we're on site.

How commercial window cleaning is priced

Per visit, based on the amount of glass, the access, the schedule and whether the inside is included. More frequent visits cost less each, because a storefront cleaned every two weeks never gets as dirty as one cleaned quarterly. Sites in a portfolio are quoted one by one and can be billed together.

Send the address, a rough count of the glass and how often you want it cleaned, and we'll come out and walk the site. If the building also needs the outside washed or the walkways cleared of winter grime, that's our pressure washing and soft washing service, and it can go on the same account.
