Christmas Light Installation in Northville, MI

Christmas light installation from a company based right here. Northville is our home base, so we know the steep gables on the old downtown streets and the tall two-story fronts out in the township. The lights come with us, the climbing is ours, and in January we take the display down.

What Northville does to your roofline

  • Steep gables near downtown

The historic district around Main and Center streets holds houses from the 1860s and 1870s, with tall, narrow gables and porches on two sides. Setting a ladder safely there takes planning. Northville's historic preservation ordinance dates from 1974, and the Historic District Commission reviews exterior changes, so check with the city before anything permanent goes on the house.

  • Second-story peaks in the township

Northville Township built more homes in the 2000s than in any other decade, according to the Census Bureau. Many of them are two-story colonials with a front peak over the entry. That peak is the part of the house people want lit and the part they least want to climb to.

  • December weather on the shingles

Detroit Metro, the closest long-record weather station, averages a December low of 25.3 degrees and 8.9 inches of December snow in NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals. Once frost or ice sits on a roof, the work waits. That's why we book installs in the fall, ahead of the first snow.

Why it happens in Northville

Why Northville rooflines are hard to light yourself

Northville has two kinds of houses, and both are hard on a homeowner with a ladder. In the city, 23 percent of the homes predate 1940, and on the Wayne County side of Baseline the share is 41 percent. Those houses have steep gables, porch roofs and close side yards.

Out in the township, the median house dates from 1993, and the 2000s were the busiest building decade. That means two-story fronts with a peak high over the entry. Put a ladder on frosty grass in late November and the job stops being a weekend project.

How we handle it in Northville

  • We provide the lights, so there are no tangled boxes to dig out of the basement.
  • We hang them on the rooflines you pick, second-story peaks in the township included.
  • On the older downtown houses, the runs are planned around steep gables, porch roofs and tight side yards.
  • Booking opens in the fall, so your install lands on dry shingles ahead of any snow.
  • January brings takedown, once the holidays wrap up.

Questions

Christmas lights questions from Northville homeowners

Is Northville Township covered for Christmas light installation?

Yes. Both halves of Northville are ours to cover, the city and the township, and Glass Guru is based here. Give us your cross streets and the parts of the house you'd like lit, and a price comes your way by reply. We also hang lights in Novi, Plymouth, Livonia and the other towns listed further down this page.

How much does Christmas light installation cost for a Northville house?

Every house prices differently. What counts is the length of eave to be lit, how high the peaks are, how steep the roof is, and whether the porch or entry is part of it. A downtown house with steep gables and a township colonial with one tall peak come out at different numbers. Tell us where you live to get yours.

When should I book Christmas lights in Northville?

In the fall, before the first snow. September and October are the best months to call. We hang lights on dry shingles, and once frost and ice arrive, roof work slows down. Booking early also gives your house a chance to be lit for the Holiday Lighted Parade on November 20, 2026.

Who takes down my Christmas lights in Northville after the holidays?

We do. Taking them down is included, and it happens in January, after the holidays are over. You don't have to get back on a ladder in the cold or work a frozen strand loose from the roof edge. We come back, removes everything and leaves the house the way we found it.

Do I need to buy my own lights for a Northville install?

No. The lights for your Christmas light installation in Northville come from us. Let us know the rooflines and the look you like, warm white, cool white or a color, and we bring what the job needs. Our gallery shows houses we've lit if you'd like to point at one.

The detail

Christmas lights in Northville, explained

Parade night in downtown Northville

The Northville Chamber of Commerce runs the Holiday Lighted Parade through downtown on Friday, November 20, 2026, starting at 6:30 p.m., with the official tree lighting in Town Square right after. Thousands of people come downtown that night. If your house is near Main and Center and you want it lit by parade night, book your Christmas light installation early in the fall.

What we do, start to finish

There are three steps. First, the lights arrive with us. Second, we hang them on the rooflines and peaks you pick. Third, after the holidays, we return to bring them down. You don't climb a ladder at any point, in November or in January.

City houses and township houses

The two halves of Northville light up differently. City homes have a 1968 median build year, and the older streets around downtown have porches, dormers and steep pitches that eat time on every stretch of eave. Township homes have a 1993 median, with longer, simpler rooflines and one or two tall peaks in front. Each house gets quoted on its own roofline.

When to call us

Call in September or October. Detroit Metro's first fall freeze tends to arrive in the second half of October, and November averages 1.9 inches of snow there. Booking early gets your lights up while the roof is dry. If the gutters are still full of leaves by then, ask about gutter cleaning on the same visit.
