What Milford does to your gutters

  • Acre lots among the hardwoods

Outside the village, Milford Township's lots run large. Oakland County's 2025 parcel count for that area puts 1,445 single-family lots at 1 to 2.4 acres, 990 at 2.5 to 4.9, and 278 at 5 acres or bigger. Central hardwood forest makes up more than half of the community's woodland, and lots like these hold a lot of trees.

  • Subdivisions laid out around woods and ponds

Milford Township's master plan says many of its subdivisions were laid out to work in natural features like ponds, woodlands and rolling ground. The trees stayed, so the leaves come every year. Where a lot slopes toward a pond, we look at the footing before a ladder goes up.

  • More than 3,000 village trees

The village has more than 3,000 trees in its rights of way and parks, looked after by its public works department, plus a three-member Tree Board and a long run as an Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA. In the older neighborhoods those trees grow beside houses on small lots, and the leaves come down on the roofs.

How your quote is worked out

Gutter cleaning is quoted per property, from the total linear footage, the number of downspouts, the height of the house and how complex the roofline is.

How long it takes

The time a gutter cleaning takes is set by the linear footage, the downspout count, the house height and the roofline complexity. The square footage of the house matters less. Two-story homes take longer, depending on how often the ladder has to move.

Why it happens in Milford

Milford's hardwoods and acre lots keep gutters filling late

The master plan the village and township adopted together in 2009 puts woodland at 21 percent of the community's land, and about 53 percent of those woods are central hardwood forest. Outside the village, 79.5 percent of Milford Township house lots measure an acre or more in Oakland County's 2025 count, and many of the township's subdivisions were designed around woods and ponds. On lots that big and that wooded, trees stand near the house and the fall leaf load is heavy. The village adds its own trees, more than 3,000 of them on streets and in parks, and its yard waste pickup runs through December 1, 2026. Our gutter season ends with November, so the last cleaning goes as late in the month as we can make it.

How we handle it in Milford

  • Each gutter emptied by hand, down to the packed, wet layer at the bottom.
  • Each downspout checked, with any blockage cleared on the spot. Downspout rinses are extra.
  • The back and side runs on township lots cleared like the front, since those can face the woods.
  • Debris bagged and taken away in our truck.
  • Anything loose, sagging or leaking pointed out to you. We don't do repairs, so you can take that to anyone.

Questions

Gutter cleaning questions from Milford homeowners

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Milford?

Every house is priced on its own: the run of gutter, the height, the pitch and the debris. A wooded township lot can hold far more debris than a small village lot. With the address in hand, we'll quote it.

Do you clean gutters in both the village and the township?

Yes. The village is part of Milford Township, and we cover both. The whole village is ZIP code 48381, and township homes use 48381 or 48380. Part of 48380 crosses into Brighton Township, so a Milford mailing address doesn't always mean a Milford house. Either way, the street address is all we need.

When should fall gutter cleaning happen in Milford?

In the second half of November. The gutter season closes with November, and the later the fall visit, the fewer leaves are left to land in the gutter before winter. Booking in October gives you the best shot at one of those late dates.

How many cleanings does a wooded Milford lot need?

Three times a year makes sense under heavy hardwoods: spring, October and late November. The October visit keeps the gutters from spilling over in the fall rains before the last cleaning. A house with little canopy over the roof can stay at two.

Do you haul the leaves away?

Yes. Everything from the gutters is bagged and goes in our truck. The village wants yard waste in paper bags or stickered cans, with no plastic, and none of that applies to ours, because it leaves with us.

The detail

Gutter cleaning in Milford, explained

A village inside a township

Milford is one community with two governments. The Village of Milford lies within Milford Township, and people from both use the downtown on Main Street. Village houses are the older ones. The median village home dates from 1973, and 17 percent go back to 1939 or earlier, according to the American Community Survey. Three village lots in four are under 14,000 square feet. The township covers about 33 square miles, with newer houses on far bigger lots. It's the same service in both. The trees and the lots are what change.

What a Milford visit covers

Each gutter is emptied by hand, the packed bottom layer along with the loose leaves on top. Then we work through the downspouts, checking that each one drains and clearing any that won't. Rinsing a downspout out costs extra. Repairs and upkeep aren't part of the job. We look while we're up there, though, and if a hanger has backed out or a seam leaks, you'll hear what we found.

Milford's yard waste dates and the fall visit

The Village of Milford picks up yard waste, leaves included, from April 7 to December 1 in 2026. Gutters are on our schedule April through November, so a Milford fall visit goes in the last weeks of November, as late as our season allows. The spring visit clears what came down over the winter, along with the first seeds.

Old houses and tree-lawns in the village

Since 2000, a stretch of the village with Greek Revival and Italianate houses has been a National Register district, North Milford Village Historic District. Three blocks of Liberty Street, from First to Union, form a boulevard with tree-lawns and a tree-lined median. The master plan describes the short blocks east of Main Street in similar terms: tree-lawns, houses of varying ages, and trees along the street. On those streets the gutters sit under the street trees, and they fill every fall.

Parks and woods across the township

Oakland County puts 4,637 acres of Milford Township in recreation or conservation use, 22.2 percent of the township outside the village. Kensington Metropark, 4,481 acres of wooded hills around Kent Lake, takes in the township's southwest corner and carries on into Lyon Township. Proud Lake Recreation Area is split between Milford and Commerce townships, and Camp Dearborn adds 626 acres west of the village. Houses along the edges of those woods take a heavier fall load.

Setting the dates for Milford gutters

Book the spring visit for after the seeds drop, and the fall visit for late November. Window washing and Christmas lights can share the trip, so ask about them when you book. Window cleaning outside carries on through December, and light installs keep going until seven days before Christmas, which gives both more room than the gutters have.
