BeforeGutter cleaning in Plymouth's Old Village starts with where to put the ladder. The lots are narrow and the side of the house may have no safe footing, so we plan that before the day. Out in the township the lots open up, and the job is volume.

What Plymouth does to your gutters
Old Village and downtown street trees
Plymouth's oldest neighborhood dates to the 1840s, and the streets around it, including Ann Arbor Trail, have full-grown trees. They drop more into a smaller gutter than any subdivision tree, onto roofs built before anyone sized gutters for them.
Narrow lots and no place for a ladder
Downtown Plymouth was laid out long before work vans. Side yards are tight, driveways are single width, and there may be nowhere safe to set a ladder on the side of the house. We plan the access before we arrive.
Township homes with buried downspouts
Plymouth Township filled in later with ranches, colonials and 1980s and 1990s subdivisions, and some of those send downspouts underground. Buried lines silt up quietly, so the gutter looks fine while the water has nowhere to go.

How your quote is worked out
Gutter cleaning is quoted per property, from the total linear footage, the number of downspouts, the height of the house and how complex the roofline is.
How long it takes
The time a gutter cleaning takes is set by the linear footage, the downspout count, the house height and the roofline complexity. The square footage of the house matters less. Two-story homes take longer, depending on how often the ladder has to move.

Why it happens in Plymouth
Older Plymouth gutters overflow down the front of the trim
On older Plymouth houses, the gutters are small and the trees are big. Old Village goes back to the 1840s, and the blocks around Kellogg Park have big old street trees planted long before anyone thought about roof drainage. Many older houses still have narrow gutters, short eaves and small downspouts, with original wood fascia behind them. When a gutter that small takes a fall's worth of leaves from a full-grown maple, it fills along its whole length and spills over the front onto the fascia, the soffit and eventually the sill and siding below. On an old house with painted wood trim, that's where rot starts.
How we handle it in Plymouth
- A hand cleaning that treats the fascia and soffit as part of the job, because on older Plymouth homes water damage shows up there first.
- Narrow and half-round gutters cleaned without forcing tools through them, since old hangers and seams don't take being pried on.
- Downspouts flushed and checked, including the small downspouts common on pre-war houses, which block much faster than modern ones.
- Tight downtown lots worked without dropping a full ladder into a four-foot side yard or across a neighbor's drive.
- Debris bagged and taken away, and the walk and porch swept, which matters when the front door opens straight onto the sidewalk.
“Quick and did a great job cleaning the gutters.”
Questions
Gutter cleaning questions from Plymouth homeowners
How much does gutter cleaning cost in Plymouth?
Older downtown houses can cost more than their size suggests, because access is awkward and old gutters need gentler work. Beyond that, it's the length of the gutters, the height, the roof pitch, the debris and any guards. Tell us the address and a little about access, and we'll price it.
Will you damage old gutters or old fascia?
We clear old gutters by hand and never pry tools through a narrow or half-round run, because old hangers and seams can't take it. If we find a hanger pulling out of soft fascia, an open seam or rot behind the gutter, we tell you. We don't sell repairs, so we have no reason to exaggerate.
How often do Plymouth gutters need clearing?
At least two visits a year. Houses in Old Village and around Kellogg Park sit under full-grown street trees with small gutters, and many need three visits. Township homes in newer subdivisions with young trees can stick to two.
Can you work on a narrow downtown lot?
Yes, and it's routine here. Tell us about the access when you book, including gate widths and whether there's anywhere to park, and we'll plan for it. We keep ladders off soft ground and off your neighbor's property.
Do you clear the roof valleys too, or only the gutters?
We clear the debris in the valleys and along the shingle line above the gutter where we can reach it safely, because that's what fills the gutter again after the next storm. If a steep or fragile roof would need walking, we check it first and tell you plainly if we shouldn't be up there.
Do I need to put the gutter debris out with my leaves?
No. We bag what comes out of the gutters and take it with us. If you'd rather keep it for your own yard waste, the city runs free curbside leaf pickup each fall, and the township collects yard waste at the curb, so it can go out with your leaves.
The detail
Gutter cleaning in Plymouth, explained
Plymouth city and township gutters
The City of Plymouth has around four thousand households and the township closer to eleven and a half thousand, and their gutters fail in different ways. In the city, the gutter is small, the tree is big and the damage lands on original wood trim. In the township, the gutter is modern and big enough, but the downspout may run into the ground, and the trouble is a blocked buried line. It's the same service with a different thing to check first, so tell us which one you have when you ask for a quote.
Old gutters get cleaned by hand
Narrow and half-round gutters on older houses sit on hangers that have been up there a long time. Levering a scoop through one pulls seams apart and pops spikes out of soft fascia. We clear these by hand and work with the shape of the gutter. If we find a hanger pulling away or a seam that has opened, we show you before we leave, so it doesn't surprise you in the spring.
Working on a tight downtown lot
Near Kellogg Park and in Old Village, the hard part is finding somewhere to stand. Side yards are narrow, fences are close, and the ground beside an old house is rarely level. We plan the approach before the day and set ladders only on firm, level footing. If the only way to the back of the house is a gate two feet wide, tell us when you book and we'll bring equipment that fits through it.
Leaves, storm drains and Plymouth's trees
Both the City of Plymouth and Plymouth Township were named Tree City USA communities for 2025. The township has given residents and subdivisions more than 700 free trees for rights-of-way and common areas, with tulip trees, elms and maples among them.
All those trees make a lot of leaves. The township's curbside collection took in about 1,800 tons of yard waste in 2025, more than the 1,700 tons of recycling it collected. The city runs free curbside leaf pickup each fall and asks residents to keep leaves off the storm drains so the streets don't flood. Gutters work the same way: whatever stays in them sends the water somewhere it shouldn't go.
When to book gutter cleaning in Plymouth
Spring and late fall, with the fall visit after the street trees have finished dropping and before the first hard freeze. Downtown houses under big trees often need a third visit. If your windows are on the list, do both on one visit. Setting up access on a tight lot is a real part of the work, and this way it only happens once.
