Window cleaning for the City of Plymouth and Plymouth Township. Old Village and the streets around Kellogg Park need sash-by-sash hand work and storm window removal. The township needs a pole and a plan. We do both.

What Plymouth does to your windows
Old Village and the Kellogg Park district
Plymouth's oldest neighborhood dates to the 1840s, and the downtown historic district was formalized in 1994. The glass is original or close to it: divided-light sash, wavy old panes in places, wood storms and putty lines that need a gentle hand. It's slow hand work by design.
Narrow lots and no place to put a ladder
The streets around downtown were laid out long before work vans. Side yards are tight, drives are single-width, and the side of the house may have no safe footing at all. A water-fed pole works from wherever we can stand, so the second story still gets done.
Township ranches with aluminum triple-track storms
Plymouth Township filled in later with ranches and colonials, and many still have the original aluminum triple-track storm and screen units. The channels pack with grit, dead insects and road salt, and the screen sits in the same track. Vacuuming them out is half the improvement, and it's the part that usually gets skipped.

How your quote is worked out
Window cleaning is quoted from your windows: how many, how many have divided panes or storms, and how high they are.
How long it takes
The length of a window cleaning visit is set by the same things that set the price: the window count, the number of divided-light openings, whether storm windows have to be taken out and refitted, and how many openings are above the first floor. We give you the expected time along with the quote.

Why it happens in Plymouth
An Old Village window in Plymouth can be sixteen pieces of glass
Old Village has houses and buildings going back to the 1840s, and the blocks around Kellogg Park and along Ann Arbor Trail have Victorians and early colonials with true divided-light sash. One window can be twelve or fifteen small panes, each with a putty line and a muntin edge to detail. Most of these houses also have a wood or triple-track storm outside, so every window becomes three glass surfaces plus taking the storm off and putting it back. The township was built later and is a different job. Both are straightforward to do well. They're just different amounts of work, and pricing them the same is how people end up disappointed.
How we handle it in Plymouth
- Divided-light sash cleaned pane by pane with the muntin edges detailed, so no film is left in the corners.
- Wood and triple-track storm windows taken off, cleaned on both sides and put back. On an Old Village house, that's often where most of the haze is.
- Newer township homes cleaned outside with a deionized water-fed pole from the ground, two-story and stairwell glass included.
- Tight downtown lots worked without a ladder against the house, which matters when the side yard is four feet wide and the neighbor's driveway is the only place to stand.
- Screens, tracks and sills included on every interior cleaning, and the aluminum triple-track channels on township ranches vacuumed out before they're wiped.
“Glass Guru sent three young men who expertly cleaned our windows, inside and out, as well as the screens.”
Questions
Window cleaning questions from Plymouth homeowners
How much does window cleaning cost in Plymouth?
That depends on the windows themselves: how many you have, how many are divided-light sash or carry a storm, and how many are up on the second floor. In Plymouth the divided lights weigh heavily, because a sash with fifteen small panes and a storm over it is far more work than one large modern window of the same size. Outside only, or the inside as well, changes it too. Send the address and you'll get a quote back.
Do you take off and reinstall storm windows?
Yes, wood storms and aluminum triple-tracks alike. They come off, both sides get cleaned, the window underneath gets cleaned, and they go back on. On triple-tracks we vacuum the channels and brush the screen at the same time. Tell us roughly how many you have, because they're the main thing that moves the price on an older Plymouth home.
Is it safe to clean the original windows on an Old Village house?
Yes, with the right method. We never use pressure on glass, we keep water low around old glazing putty and wood sills, and we clean each pane by hand. If we find failed putty, a cracked pane or a rotted sill, we'll point it out.
How often should Plymouth windows be cleaned?
Most homes do well with two cleanings a year. If you're downtown under the street trees along Ann Arbor Trail, or your lot backs onto the Hines Park corridor, you'll collect more tree litter and may want a third visit.
Can you park and work on a narrow downtown lot?
Yes, all the time. With a water-fed pole we don't need a ladder against the house or a spot in a four-foot side yard, and the van stays off your lawn. If access is tight, tell us when you book and we'll plan for it ahead of time.
What kind of windows do Plymouth Township houses have?
The 1970s were the township's biggest building decade, so a lot of homes have aluminum sliders, early double-pane glass or vinyl replacements. Those clean up fast. The tracks and weep channels in old aluminum frames hold decades of grit, and we clear them along with the glass so the bottom of the pane stays clean.
The detail
Window cleaning in Plymouth, explained
One page, two Plymouths
The City of Plymouth is small, walkable and old, with around four thousand households. Plymouth Charter Township wraps around it with closer to eleven and a half thousand. Most people hear Plymouth and picture Kellogg Park, but most Plymouth houses are in the township, and they're very different buildings. We work both and quote them differently: the city is hand work on old sash and storms, and the township is pole work on bigger modern windows with more height and fewer pieces.
How we handle old sash without wrecking it
Old glass and old glazing putty can't take pressure, heat or a scraper. We use solution and a squeegee sized to each small pane, work the muntin edges by hand, and detail each corner one pane at a time. Outside, a low flow of purified water rinses the glass without forcing anything into tired putty or a soft sill. If a sash is in bad shape, we'll tell you before we start.
Storm windows are half the job here
If your house has storms, the glass you're looking through is the outside of the storm, and that's the side nobody cleans. We take them off, clean both sides, clean the window underneath, and put them back where they came from. On triple-track aluminum units in the township, the same visit gets the channels vacuumed and the screen brushed, because a clean pane sitting in a gritty track still looks wrong from the kitchen. Tell us how many storms the house has, since that moves a Plymouth quote more than anything else.
Plymouth's housing, old and newer
The City of Plymouth has the oldest housing of the towns we serve. Its median house was built in 1961, and about three in ten were built before 1940, in the Census Bureau's latest five-year figures. The township's median is 1977, and the 1970s were its biggest building decade. That splits a Plymouth window job in two: hand work on old sash downtown, and 1970s and 1980s frames in the township, quoted differently.
A few of the city's houses are on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Henry W. Baker House on South Main Street, an Italianate house from 1875 that was listed in 1982. Houses of that age can still have their original glass, which is thinner and less even than modern panes. It gets cleaned by hand, with no blades and no pressure.
Timing around Michigan weather
In Plymouth, the outside season is March into November. Spring books up fast once the tree pollen is over, and fall books up again before the holidays. Inside work runs all winter, and January and February are the quietest stretch on our calendar and the easiest to get on. If your gutters are on the list too, they can go on the same trip, and the two jobs fit together naturally in the fall.
