What Milford does to your windows
North Milford Village Historic District
The district went on the National Register in 2000, and its architecture is recorded as Greek Revival and Italianate. Where a house there still has its original glass, the panes can be uneven, and old glazing putty breaks if a blade catches it. Each of those panes gets its own careful pass by hand.
Acre lots on rolling, wooded ground
Outside the village, close to four in five house lots in Milford Township are an acre or larger, and the community's master plan describes subdivisions laid out around woodlands and rolling ground. A sloped yard changes where a ladder can stand, so we plan the footing on each side of the house before the work starts.
Street trees across the village
The Michigan DNR named the Village of Milford a 2025 Tree City USA, and its public works crew maintains over 3,000 trees in village rights of way and parks. Liberty Street has a tree-lined median for three blocks. Under that canopy, front windows gather pollen in spring, and wet leaves settle on the sills in fall.

How your quote is worked out
Window cleaning is quoted from your windows: how many, how many have divided panes or storms, and how high they are.
How long it takes
The length of a window cleaning visit is set by the same things that set the price: the window count, the number of divided-light openings, whether storm windows have to be taken out and refitted, and how many openings are above the first floor. We give you the expected time along with the quote.

Why it happens in Milford
An old village and acre lots make two kinds of Milford job
Milford is a village inside a township, and the two have different houses. In the Village of Milford, half the homes date from 1973 or earlier, and one home in six predates 1940, per Census estimates for 2020 to 2024. Glass in a house that old can be original, set in putty that cracks if it's pushed, and it needs slow hand work. Milford Township outside the village is newer and spread out: Oakland County's 2025 parcel figures put 2,713 of its 3,414 house lots at one acre or larger. On lots that big, the back and sides of a house take as long as the front.
How we handle it in Milford
- Older village sash cleaned one pane at a time by hand, with blades kept off the glazing putty.
- Every side of a big township house cleaned outside by hand, upper windows included.
- Inside glass done over covered floors, and the screens, tracks and sills cleaned in that visit.
- Pollen and leaf grit from village street trees and township woods cleaned off the glass and the sills.
- Cracked panes and loose putty pointed out as we go, so you know what needs a glazier.
Questions
Window cleaning questions from Milford homeowners
How much does window cleaning cost in Milford?
We price from the glass: the number of windows, how many have small divided panes, how high the upper row sits, and whether you want the inside done. On a big township house, the back and sides count as much as the front. Share the address and a short list of what you want done, and you'll have a quote back.
Do you cover both the village and Milford Township for window cleaning?
Yes. The village lies within Milford Township and uses ZIP 48381, while township homes can be 48381 or 48380. Part of Brighton Township, to the west, shares 48380, and we work there as well. Send the street address and we'll quote it.
Do you clean old windows on Milford village houses?
Yes. Old wood sash gets hand work, a small pane at a time, and blades stay away from the glazing putty. If we find a cracked pane or putty that has come loose, we'll show you, since that's work for a glazier.
How often should Milford windows be cleaned?
Two outside cleanings a year cover it: one after the spring pollen and one after the leaves come down. Under big trees, in the village or on a wooded township lot, a summer visit helps too. Inside glass can run on its own schedule.
Do you clean big houses on acre lots in Milford Township?
Yes. Every side gets cleaned, upper windows included, and where the ground slopes we plan the ladder footing first. Tell us if a long drive or a gate stands between the road and the house.
What months do you clean outside windows in Milford?
March through December. January and February are inside-only months, and they're the easiest time to book an inside cleaning. Gutter cleaning and pressure washing run April through November, so either can share a spring or fall visit with the windows.
The detail
Window cleaning in Milford, explained
A village inside a township
The Village of Milford, home to about 6,500 people, sits inside Milford Charter Township in Oakland County. The township counts about 17,100 residents, the village included. The whole village sits in ZIP 48381, and the rest of the township splits between 48381 and 48380. Downtown takes in Central Park, 12 acres beside the Huron River and Pettibone Creek, a short walk from Main Street. We work in the village and the township, and each house gets a quote built on its own windows.
How old the village houses are
Homes built before 1960 make up 37 percent of the village's housing, by the Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 estimates. The community's master plan describes the houses in the core of the village as quaint and those near its edges as larger and more contemporary. That range of ages is why the first thing we ask about a village house is when it was built.
Old Town and Liberty Street
The master plan refers to the residential grid east of Main Street as Old Town, a mix of historic homes and other styles, and it describes three blocks of Liberty Street as lined largely with historic homes. Where one of those houses keeps its old wood sash, each small pane is worked by hand with a cloth or a narrow squeegee, and no scraper touches the glazing putty, which turns brittle with age. If a pane is cracked or the putty has let go, we'll show you before we carry on.
Big lots and woods in the township
Outside the village, the county's 2025 parcel count shows 1,445 township house lots sized one to 2.4 acres, plus 990 sized 2.5 to 4.9. The master plan counts 21 percent of the Milford community as woodland, about half of it central hardwood forest. Big lots give us room to set up on every side, and wooded ones need the sills and tracks cleared of what the trees drop. Near Sears Lake, in the northwest of the township, older cottages sit on very small lots, and there the side yards are tight.
Water on the glass
The village's 2025 water report lists two 114-foot wells, and a new well site came online in 2026. None of the village's reports gives a hardness figure. The 2009 community master plan said the township relied on private wells. Whatever comes out of the tap or the well, water that dries on a window leaves its minerals on the pane. So the outside glass gets finished by hand at the frame, and if a sprinkler keeps hitting the house, we'll point to the head that's doing it.
Inside glass and fixtures
Inside, the drop cloths go down first. Each pane is washed, squeegeed and dried along its edges with a cloth. Screens come out for a brush and a rinse, tracks get vacuumed, and sills get a wipe. If a light fixture hangs in the front hall, chandelier cleaning can be added to that visit.
When to book in Milford
Outside glass runs March through December, and inside glass runs all year. Ask up front if you'd like gutter clearing or Christmas lights done on the same trip. Milford is about 17 miles from Northville, by I-96 and Milford Road.
