What Brighton does to your gutters

  • Over 2,000 acres of township woodland

Brighton Township's woods add up to more than 2,000 acres, and hedgerows run along lot lines and roadsides. A house among them catches leaves, seeds and twigs in its gutters for three seasons of the year, and the biggest drop comes in late fall.

  • Bigger houses on narrow lake lots

Brighton Township has over twenty named lakes and many smaller ponds. Its plan says lake homes there were small as a rule and sat on narrow lots, and many of the older ones are being upgraded or replaced with larger houses. A big house on a narrow lake lot can leave little room at the sides for a ladder, so we plan the setup before the day.

  • City leaf pickup into late November

Leaf vacuuming in the City of Brighton starts during the week of October 26 in 2026 and keeps going until every leaf is picked up or the crews switch to snow. Bagged yard waste pickup lasts until the week of November 23. Use it to time the year's final gutter visit.

How your quote is worked out

Gutter cleaning is quoted per property, from the total linear footage, the number of downspouts, the height of the house and how complex the roofline is.

How long it takes

The time a gutter cleaning takes is set by the linear footage, the downspout count, the house height and the roofline complexity. The square footage of the house matters less. Two-story homes take longer, depending on how often the ladder has to move.

Why it happens in Brighton

Brighton Township's woods fill gutters on big, tree-lined lots

Brighton Township's 2020 master plan counts woods on over 2,000 acres, plus hedgerows along property lines and roads. The same plan talks of country estates on large acreage, reached by gravel roads lined with trees, and it calls for lots of at least two acres in its north and east. On a wooded lot the trees stand close to the roof, so whatever they drop, the gutters catch, from spring to the last leaves of fall. In the City of Brighton, a Tree City USA, leaf collection runs into late November. In both places the fall cleaning has to wait for the last of the leaves, and we stop gutter work when November ends, so the date matters.

How we handle it in Brighton

  • Every gutter cleared by hand, the runs that face the woods included.
  • Every downspout checked, and any blocked one cleared. Rinses cost extra.
  • Leaves and twigs along the shingle edge pulled out too, before they wash down.
  • Debris bagged and hauled off in our truck. It doesn't go to the road edge for the city's leaf vacuum.
  • A word about anything loose or leaking we see while we're up there. We don't do gutter repairs, so we just tell you what we found.

Questions

Gutter cleaning questions from Brighton homeowners

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Brighton?

The price comes from the house: how many feet of gutter it has, how high they sit, the roof pitch and the amount of debris. A township home in the woods can hold more than its size suggests. With the address, we can work out a quote.

Do you work in Brighton Township too, or only the city?

Both. City and township are on our route, and we drive out from Northville, about 20 miles away by Beck Road and I-96. A township house with a Milford mailing address is covered too.

When should I book fall gutter cleaning in Brighton?

In October, for a date in November. City crews begin vacuuming leaves in the last week of October and keep going until the job's done, which shows how late the drop runs here. Our gutter season closes at the end of November, so asking early gets you a date near the end of the leaf season.

Will you fix a loose or leaking gutter?

No. We clear gutters and downspouts, and repair is outside what we do. While we're up there we look, and if a hanger is backing out, a seam leaks or a run has lost its slope, you'll hear about it from us so you can call whoever does that work.

How many cleanings do Brighton gutters need each year?

Two is the starting point, in spring and in November. A township house with woods close around it can use a third visit in October, so the gutters aren't overflowing before the last cleaning comes. Where few trees reach the roof, two visits will do.

The detail

Gutter cleaning in Brighton, explained

The city and the township

Brighton is two governments. The City of Brighton holds the downtown, with Main Street, Grand River Avenue and the Millpond. Brighton Township borders it and covers about 33 square miles. Owners live in 95 percent of the township's occupied homes, by the latest Census survey, and 92 percent of its homes are detached single-family houses. Close to 80 percent of those went up since 1970, according to the township's plan, and the newer streets curve and often end in cul-de-sacs. For gutters, the trees standing near each roof set the work.

How we clear a Brighton gutter

We take the debris out of each gutter by hand. By November it's a wet mat of leaves, seeds and twigs, and the heavy bottom layer is what holds water and freezes. Then we check every downspout and clear any that's blocked, because water from a clean gutter still has to get out at the bottom. A downspout rinse is an extra charge. We don't repair or maintain gutters. If a hanger is pulling loose or a seam is dripping, we point it out and show you where.

Parkland on the township's edges

Brighton Township's plan names Kensington Metropark as its main public recreation land, and part of the park lies inside the township. The Metroparks describe Kensington as wooded, hilly ground around Kent Lake, and Island Lake Recreation Area borders the township on the southeast. Houses with big trees near the roof fill their gutters faster.

Street trees and older homes in the city

The City of Brighton made the Tree City USA list for 2025, and its 2026 comprehensive plan puts tree cover at 25 percent of the city's land. The same plan sets a goal of preserving the city's older homes, and about one city home in sixteen dates from 1939 or earlier. On an older house we clear the gutters carefully and point out any section that's pulling away from the fascia.

Brighton Township homes with a Milford address

ZIP code 48380 belongs to Milford, but it stretches across 26 percent of the township's acreage, so some township houses get mail addressed to Milford. GM's proving ground in the township's northeast corner, which fills more than a tenth of it, is addressed to Milford as well. The township's main ZIP is 48114, and the city uses 48116. We cover all of it, and the street address tells us which government the house is in.

Booking gutter cleaning in Brighton

A Brighton house needs its gutters done twice a year. The spring visit goes in April or May, after the seeds come down. The fall one goes in November, toward the end of the city's leaf season, since our gutter work runs April through November. If the windows need washing or you'd like Christmas lights on the roofline, mention them when you call and we'll do everything in one trip. Outside window cleaning runs into December, and lights go up as late as a week before Christmas. Gutters have the shortest window, so set that date first.
